The Tools page installs the developer tools a Laravel project needs with one click each, and shows which ones you already have and where they came from.
| Tool | ID | How it's installed |
|---|---|---|
| PHP | php | From the PHP page |
| Composer | composer | Portable download into LaraMonster's bin/ |
| Node.js (LTS) | node | Portable download (includes npm) |
| PostgreSQL | postgres | Portable download |
| MariaDB (MySQL) | mysql | Your package manager |
| Redis / Valkey | redis | Your package manager |
| Mailpit | mailpit | Portable download |
| Meilisearch | meilisearch | Portable download |
| Git | git | Your package manager |
| Browser certificate tools | nss | Your package manager (certutil, for trusting HTTPS in Firefox and Chrome on Linux) |
Package managers
Tools that come from your system's package manager use whichever one LaraMonster finds:
| System | Package managers |
|---|---|
| macOS | Homebrew |
| Windows | winget, Scoop |
| Linux | pacman, apt, dnf, zypper |
Installing a system package asks for your password once. Portable downloads never do: they go into LaraMonster's home folder.
From the terminal
$ laramonster tools # what's installed, and how to get the rest
$ laramonster tools install node postgres gitUsing Node.js
If Node.js is already on your computer (nvm, fnm, Volta, Homebrew, the official installer), LaraMonster finds and uses it. Otherwise install Node.js (LTS) here: LaraMonster uses it for the new-project wizard's npm install and npm run build, and setup's Terminal commands add node, npm and npx shims for it, so npm run dev works in new terminals too. Installed Node.js after setting up the terminal? Run laramonster setup again to add the shims.
